Report & ScoresSo how could it even be physically possible for this year's match to be better than last year's? I'll tell you how: through the hard work and creativity of a fantastic staff, torrential monsoon-like rains and the enthusiastic participation of shooters, old and new. New for this year:
- An expanded, four stage format, including a “slug
only” stage, with shooting out to 100 yards.
- Hand-to-hand weapons, including a Boar Spear and
Annihilator Hammer.
- Post Apocalyptic scenario, with matching t-shirt,
featuring barbarians, skulls, babes and ancient Greek
awesomeness
- And as always, extremely physically challenging dry
land, swamp and woods courses.
Jason “Still Crazylegs” Henthorne once again ran away from the rest of the competitors in Swamp Fox Shotgun division, as well as having the best overall score. New guy, Don “The Burner” Borling, was close on his heels, totally dominating the Stock Riot Gun division. Other stand outs were Danny “Grasshopper” Tan, showing the old timers what a teenager can do, and Jennifer “Bog Queen” Thomas, who fed her gun too much mud in the swamp, but pumped, pounded and outright forced her 870 to keep shooting, in the true spirit of the match.
Most of the competitors cheerfully stayed for clean-up, resulting in a quick finish to the day, rolling into an incredible prime rib dinner, laid-out by the Fine Chefs of Combat Cuisine.
After more than 20 years involved in this match, it's getting tough to keep up the intensity, but year after year, all I need to do is ask, and the help is there. The back-breaking labor, contagious silliness and incredible camaraderie and friendship of this group keeps me coming back for more. It takes more than a dozen people working hard to make this all happen, and they all have my deepest regard and thanks.
