Match Report

This year, one of the newer guys that has been helping us out for a few years, asked me how we keep doing it, year after year... By the end of the match, waiting for an amazing dinner, drinking adult beverages, going over the events of the day with the guys, it was easy to answer: This thing we do is a piece of greatness. In thirty-five years, think of the hundreds of people that have been involved and will remember it forever. It's a labor of love, but God help us, we do love it.

Anyway, forgive your humble match director for waxing poetic... On to the good stuff.

This year's match was expanded AGAIN, making it the most aggressive match ever, with heavy amounts of rifle and pistol, in addition to the traditional shotgun only stages. Faced with these new challenges, Nathan Wilson thoroughly stomped everyone else into the swamp muck, having the best score on every stage, in any division, shooting a trusty old pump gun and full power ammo (Swamp Fox Shotgun Division). Danny Tan won the Stock Riot Gun Division, with one of our most dependable helpers, Tim Swineford, a close second. Roy Mitchell turned in an excellent score in the Enhanced Tactical Shotgun division as well.

Other notable events... Jason Henthorne, our second place SFS shooter, sacrificed at least a pint of blood to the swamp gods, reminding us why we ALWAYS wear shooting glasses. New shooter, Brian Craven, entertained us all, showing up with a Winchester 1897, an M1 Garand, a GI 1911, and other period gear. This is the kind of thing that makes us smile.

My very special thanks to the Francis Marion Faithful who burn vacation days to sweat, bleed, cut swamp paths, haul steel, etc., to set up and run this match. And finally, kudos to the Fine Chefs of Combat Cuisine. Once again, they delivered the best meal of my year, to go with unmatched fellowship.
