								Match ResultsMay 29, 2004
We couldn't have asked for a nicer day than Saturday, May 29, 2004 to hold Ashland Lake Gun Clubs first IDPA match of the 04 season. The rain moved on, the sun came out, and most of the mud dried up.
Our first match this year used pretty straight foward scenarios. One of the most notable areas that shooters need to practice (judging by points down, cursing and comments made) is shooting on the move. You will see more of this on June 19; practice. Other than the Mexican Defense Standards Course, points down were kept at a minimum. Good shooting everyone.
Some issues that need to be addressed for upcoming IDPA matches.

									- Proper use of cover. IDPA rule #19 "If cover is
available the shooter must use it. More than 50% of the
shooters upper torso must be behind cover while engaging threat
targets and/or reloading. If theshooter is shooting from low
cover, one knee must be on the ground while shooting. When using vertical cover such as a wall or
barricade, 100% of the shooters legs/feet must be behind cover
while engaging threat targets and/or reloading. If in the
opinion of the SO adequate cover is not being used, ie: if the
shooter does not have to move between target engagements, the
SO will yell COVER. If the competitor immediately moves to
adequate cover, NO penatly will be assessed. If the competitor
does not immediately move to adequate cover, a 3 second
procedural penatly will be assessed." There is a little
more on this in the IDPA rule book but that is the important
part. If you have cover use it and do not let more than 50% of
your upper body come out from the side of a barricade.

									- Use of concealment cover. This is another area that has
not been used/enforced at past shoots. Please bring some form
of cover concealment for upcoming IDPA shoots. A shooting vest,
untucked shirt or light jacket. Although the use of this might
be limited on very hot days during the mid-summer months, it
will be used more at future shooting events. This would also be
excellent practice for carrying concealed with Ohios' new CCW
law. Unless of course you are in your car but this is a whole
									different issue.

I would like to thank Doug and his staff at "Combat Cuisine" For the excellent catered lunch served on Ashland Lakes' finest paper plates. Truly a culinary feast. Hopefully everyone got their fill.
I received several requests for another classifier match. This will probably be held on a Sunday in early July. Keep an eye on the web site. Post cards and e-mail notification will also be sent.
Don't forget June 12 is Ashland Lake Gun Club's annual DARE match. This event helps raise money for local law enforcement DARE programs. IDPA will have 2 courses of fire and there will be a whole lot of other shooting events going on. Check the web site for more details.
Other than that, thank you to all who came out and made our first match of the season another fun IDPA event.
