2011 IDPA MatchWell, I have come to the conclusion that there is either something very wrong with IDPA shooters or they love this sport that much. Nineteen degrees at 8:00am, and when the smoke cleared, 69 shooters walked off the range fresh out of the winter hibernation, and a whole lot of new faces to boot.
The first IDPA match of the year turned out to be a record setting turnout. The weather was dry, but cold, but the weapons where good and hot. Phenomenal shooting went to Dan O’Carroll who took the overall, and he is only classified as a Marksman. Han Sim came in second and had some real problems on stage two that cost him some time. Dan Tan came in a very close third. If you do not know, Dan is only 14 years old. Gene Pfeifer shot the entire match with only down 1. And “Hoss the Boss” Mike Mcgreer took the 8th place spot overall shooting a revolver in Enhanced Service Revolver. Mike was on fire and took highest score on stage 2 with a 12.09 and only 2 down. I guess mike has been doing some practice over the winter. Great job to everyone!
We where a little short on SO’s, but a big thanks to the guys that helped out. John Moson and John Carroll set up Friday night for all to enjoy. John Moson and Gino Lavalle (in training) worked the standards course on stage three. Angel Green and Han Sim ran stage one “Undesirable Visitors”. Tim McGowan and Rod Cabbage ran stage two “Stop and Go”. Dave Clute and Phil Tolbert ran stage four “Full House”. Rudy Lacosh handled registration and did some KP. And Ron Lee was solo in the “Combat Cuisine”. Thank you all for your dedication and fighting the cold!!!
EXTRAS:
John Moson lost his knife. It was a black Kershaw with the assist feature when opening it. It also had a belt clip and was about 4 inches long. If anyone found this knife, please get a hold of me. Thanks!
I see that the majority of the shooters are not classified; I would like to see this change. IDPA rules state that all shooters need to shoot the classifier once a year. We are offering this May 21st.
Please look into joining IDPA and getting a membership. It is only $40 a year and includes a magazine that has some good reading in it. Mostly it is a contribution to the sport we and the 17,000 others all are having a lot of fun in every month. Also, each and every one of you should be a member of the NRA; we are only strong in large numbers. You can get a Liberty membership for only $10 with no magazine. There is a lot against the sport and weapons we all use in these sports, the NRA needs all the help it can to fight these battles.
