Tactical Shotgun Match
May 10, 2003
Stage One - Home Invasion:
Scenario - A rash of home invasions
in your area has you on heightened awareness. You prepare for this by keeping
your shotgun loaded and ready at all times. While working in your den late in
the evening, you hear a crashing noise, which sounds like your front door is
being broken down. By the time you have grabbed your shotgun, an unknown number
of armed assailants have entered your house, and some have made it into your
den.
String One (Vickers Count, unlimited shots, minimum 12 rounds
of buckshot) - Shooter is sitting in a chair with hands on knees. Gun is loaded
to class capacity (with buckshot only), safety on, in a gun rack. On the start
signal, the shooter retrieves his gun, and moves to cover (using the desk for
low cover). Shooter engages T1, T2 and T3 (pepper poppers) from low cover, then
moves to the doorway, and engages T4 - T8 (pepper poppers) in the "family room",
avoiding no-shoot targets. The shooter then moves to the outside doorway and
engages T9 - T12 (pepper poppers). All reloads must be "Ready-Position Reloads",
from cover. All spare ammo must be with the gun (in side saddles, ammo belts,
bandoliers, etc.), and may not be worn on the person at the beginning of the
string. For example, if the shooter is using a bandolier, this bandolier must be
placed with the gun, on the rack, but may be carried or worn (slung over the
head or shoulder, etc), after the clock starts running. Use of cover will be
watched closely and must be used properly at all times.
String Two (Vickers Count, unlimited shots, minimum 8 rounds of buckshot, 4 slugs)
- Shooter is sitting in a chair with hands on knees. Gun is loaded to class
capacity (with buckshot only), safety on, in a gun rack. On the start signal,
the shooter retrieves his gun, and moves to cover (using the desk for low
cover). Shooter engages T1, T2 and T3 (pepper poppers) from low cover, then
moves to the doorway, and engages T4 - T8 (pepper poppers) in the "family room",
avoiding no-shoot targets. The shooter then moves to the outside doorway,
executes a buckshot to slugs transition reload from cover and engages T9 - T12
(IDPA targets) with at least one slug each. All buckshot reloads must be
"Ready-Position Reloads", from cover. A "Ready-Position Reload" isn't mandatory
for the transition load to slugs. All spare buckshot ammo must be with the gun
(in side saddles, ammo belts, bandoliers, etc.), and may not be worn on the
person at the beginning of the string. For example, if the shooter is using a
bandolier, this bandolier must be placed with the gun, on the rack, but may be
carried or worn (slung over the head or shoulder, etc), after the clock starts
running. Slug ammunition will be placed at the outside doorway for you (to keep
shooters from accidentally shooting pepper poppers with slugs). Use of cover
will be watched closely and must be used properly at all times.
NOTE: IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE SHOOTER BE VERY AWARE OF
WHAT AMMO IS LOADED IN HIS GUN. FIRING ON A PEPPER POPPER WITH A
SLUG WILL BE CAUSE FOR DISQUALIFICATION (AND $25 FINE). BUCKSHOT
HITS ON PAPER TARGETS WILL BE SCORED AS MISSES.
Stage Two - Speed Shoot:10 pepper poppers set up at 7 yards, middle two
poppers set-up to cross over. Two shooters can shoot man against man. Popper on
the bottom wins. Single shooters may also shoot against the clock. You get three
5 popper runs with your regular match fee. After that, extra 5 popper runs cost
$1 / piece (or, loser pays $2 for man against man). Scores will not be kept on
this stage. Buckshot is not required for this stage. High Brass birdshot loads
will do the trick. Also, any handgun or handgun caliber carbine (lever gun or
semi-auto) may also be used on this stage. (Minimum ammo requirement: 15
buckshot or birdshot loads)
