Tactical Rifle Match
June 14th, 2008A fantastic day at ALGC! If you enjoyed shooting and were not there for the double dose of IDPA in the Morning and Tactical Rifle in the afternoon, you missed an epic day of gunfire, cordite, and flying lead!
The Tactical Rifle Match consisted of four stages: The Crazy Legs Special, Rifle Box Drill, Holy Barricade (two strings) and the El Prez Rifle. Shooters enjoyed firing rifles from 200 yards all the way down to 10 yards, with the majority of the shooting at CQB distances. A transition to pistol after the rifle failed was a required string. In the Crazy Legs Special, a demanding COF found shooters forced to fire weapons from a variety of distances out to 200 yards after running – heaving chests caused more than one miss! Stage 2 found shooters negotiating barrels and shooting on the move with the rifle, Stage 3 was an outstanding new Barricade and stage to utilize it with a transition to handgun. Capping the day was Stage 4 - El Presidente with the rifle. A challenging day for equipment and shooters, nearly 20 hardy souls braved the Taliban infested rifle ranges on Saturday. Mike McGreer once again rained rapid and accurate death and despair on the enemies of the USA, winning 3 out of four stages and coming in second place in the fourth stage to Win the Match overall. Nice Shooting Mike!
AR rifles of various configurations dominated the weapons in use, with one shooter firing an M1A SOCOM.
The Francis Marion XXVIII flyer and advanced sign up sheet will be in the next newsletter and on the website shortly, please send in ASAP. A shotgun match held July 13th - two weeks before the Francis Marion -will be a great warm up for the Francis Marion and the last standard shotgun match of the season. Hope to see you there!
