Tactical Rifle Clinic & Standards Course
April 11, 2009The Clinic this year and Doubleheader with the Standards Match was a success, so much so in fact we had 24 shooters, eclipsing the previous record attendance of 15 by 60%. The Tactical Directors were on the ranges from 9:30am to 5:30 pm – a lot of shooting!
With relatively good weather and muddy ranges, shooters were able to test their skills in the three new simplified divisions, Stock, Enhanced, and Heavy Gun. Mike McGreer walked away with the top score in the Enhanced Division, Nathan Goebbels took 1st Place in the Heavy Gun Division, and first time ALGC shooter Jacob Barnes took top ranking in the Stock Gun Division. Great shooting guys!
One shooter learned the value of having backup iron optics in the event of a Battery Powered Optic firsthand – after his EoTech failed after the fourth shot, the shooter was forced to strip the offending optic from the weapon (on the clock), throw it in the mud, and continue shooting with his iron sights. Batteries. That weapon will have a new optic in place with co-witnessed irons visible in the event of another failure. Other valuable lessons learned were sure footing in the mud while moving and shooting, the difficulties of weak handed shooting, and the blessings and curses of the sling.
All in all a good day at the range, and a great primer for the tactical Rifle season! Thanks for the SO help supplied by Rudy, Mark, and Angel – we needed it guys!
