13th 2013 Tactical Rifle MatchThanks to all the people who helped with setup, run a course of fire, and lastly clean up and break down the match. I was a little worried we would be under staffed for our first match of the year, fortunately good help showed up and pulled together to make a great match. There are far too many to list by name, but you know who you are and we appreciate it. Keep up the good work.
The match consisted of 5 stages, completely occupying both the 300 and 200 yard backstops, where new shooters and seasoned veterans shot alike. I would like to state, that I was impressed by the level of professionalism our shooters displayed, as an entire group, and hope that the same level of safety and careful attention to muzzle discipline, finger control and following of commands from the Safety Officers continues. It also seemed that, in general, skill levels are increasing. I was impressed by the level of accuracy and raw times shown in the first match. Remember to stay within the confines of safe speeds and movements based on your personal abilities and current weather conditions.
Conditions were, well let’s just say, sticky and slippery at the same time. Sounds weird, but the muddy mess was just that, so much in fact I slipped and “mostly” fell, while also having the sole of my boot get completely separated and left in the mud. Nice!!! Not quite the Francis Marion levels of mud, but none the less “muddy”.
I kept the first match to a CQB distance only, but future matches will contain longer distances with some running involved to elevate your sluggish heart rates. I am looking forward to the next match which will be Tactical Shotgun on May 25th. Hope to see everyone at the match, and as always if you have any questions or comments please let me hear them.
