TACTICAL RIFLE CLINIC/MATCHApril 12, 2014Every year for the first rifle clinic/match, I never really know what to expect and this year was no different. I can tell you that I did not expect such a large turnout for the day. I was blown away by the amount of people we had attending the first clinic of the year. Adding to that, the day was perfect compared to some other cold and wet clinics. Great weather really brings people out. We ended up having a total of 41 shooters for the match, way more than I anticipated, but I did plan on having 3 separate stages, one per range, just in case we ended up with a larger number of shooters. First things first, Thank You all for coming to the match and joining us in a great day of shooting and secondly, I want to thank all the S.O.’s for helping run the matches AGAIN! Also thanks for any individuals who helped set up and tear down for the day, you know who you are, and we appreciated the assistance.
Mud, Mud, Mud, yep that’s about normal for the first match at least I can count on that. Luckily everybody stayed in the upright position “mostly” and no face plants, but I secretly would love to get a picture of someone doing just that! Just without the loaded firearm in hand. I was told that on one range everyone had very good muzzle discipline and no serious first time safety violations which I attribute to good clinic instruction/ guidance. There still needs to be some work on the transition to week side shooting, as far as muzzle discipline goes but, I am sure everyone will work that out at home and perfect that pesky transition to weak side shooting. Oh! And by the way, stop crowding the cover it should make those transitions easier for you and safer for us.
I hope to see all of you at the Shotgun clinic/match, if you think rifle is fun, you don’t know what you are missing. Shotgun matches are some of the most fun and satisfying matches I have shot. Witnessing the raw power of 1 ¼ ounce of lead 00 buckshot on steel poppers is fantastic. That’s something paper IDPA targets won’t give you “instant feedback” Oh Yah!! Plus those of us who don’t shoot “down zeros” consistently, we can be a little less precise and still get good results, except maybe slugs, but still extremely satisfying to shoot. I just don’t want to shoot 15 slugs in a row, unless I have about 4 fill in the blank your favorite pain medication afterwards.
We are missing some score sheets, if you want your scores please don’t forget to turn them in. If we lost it/misplaced it please inform me and I will adjust the scores or if you want to scan it and email me with the score sheet then I will redo the scores. Otherwise all is well. Please feel free to email me with any questions you may have and we will get it squared away as soon as possible. See you at the next match!
