 March 2013 IDPA Match
WOW, what a way to start off the ALGC IDPA program for 2013. 25 degrees out and 104 shooters show up to set a new record.
We also set a record on the number of SO’s that showed up to run the match for all of us to enjoy. Seems they all had cabin fever just like the rest of us. When this many SO’s show up, it makes for an easier day on all of us and gets everybody through a whole lot faster. For you new shooters, SO’s are Safety Officers. They are the ones keeping score and running the timers. They do not get paid for any of this and donate there time to the sport. Without them, we cannot have matches like this. I want to personally thank each and every one of them for this dedication. I hope this continues through out the course of the year, because it looks like it is going to be a busy season. Thank you again guys and gals for all the help. And don’t forget about the two old war horses in the Combat Cuisine, Ron and George. With out them, we all go hungry. Thanks guys!!!
In setting a record turnout, we also set a record on the amount of new shooters. This is great for the sport! We also had a couple of new junior shooters that shot the program, this is even better for the sport. One in particular was a little girl name Hannah. This was Hannah’s first ever IDPA match and I can tell you it will not be her last. Hannah is only 10 years old and came all the way from Perry Ohio. She displayed perfect skill drawing and reholstering and was very safe the entire day. This mature little lady is going to be getting some special training to refine some of her natural skills, and I was just informed she just got herself a brand new S&W M&P 9 for her accomplishments. Great job Hannah!!
Like I said earlier, we had a record setting number of new shooters. With that, we also had a record amount of poor gun handling skills. All my SO’s said they gave more muzzle and finger on the trigger calls then ever before, we even had 2 AD’s (accidental discharges), and that is 2 to many. IDPA matches are not a place to learn how to shoot or draw from a holster; this is something you need to know before you come to a match. If you do not feel comfortable with this, you need to take some training classes. If you do not know where to go for this, let me know and I can direct you. I teach this and work for someone that offers different levels of these types of classes for those that would be interested.
The Ammo Chest:Effective Immediately: In order to shoot the match, all shooters must attend a shooters meeting and range safety class. This will take about 20-30 minutes and be held in the safe gun handling area. This is not an option, NO MEETING, NO SHOOTING, and NO EXCEPTIONS. There will be two meetings: One at 10:30AM before registration opens, and one at 12:00PM when registration closes. I hate to be this strict, but we have been seeing to much carelessness that needs to be eliminated.
The Clinic is next month, April 27th. If you have never attended, I highly suggest you make arrangement to attend this class. If you are a new shooter, you definitely need to attend this class. This class will give you all the information you need to complete in IDPA. Registration for the Clinic
can be done on line and is mandatory.
